Upstate Adventure.

So last weekend, my Mom was in the tri-state area on a ski trip w/ my family. As my father secretly sold all of my ski equipment in a down-low garage sale (however refuses to admit this fact) i was left w/ no means of snowboarding. Since my mom was only an hour or two up state, I decided to take the Metro north train up to poughkeepsie NY to spend the afternoon w/ her. Rodger is a good boyfriend, and volunteered to escort me up to grand central station. It was my first time being in the terminal part where all of the trains leave, that is featured in many feature films.

it looked exactly like that. jk it looked more like this:

NEway, I was like, thanks! then I hopped on my train up to poughkeepsie. I wasn't sure what i was in store for, as i haven't ever been "upstate in NY. I had passed through regular new york state as a kid going up to Canada, but hadn't really considered Buffalo upstate, as "upstate" sort of provokes imagry of provencial country views.

For example: google image "Upstate New York" :

glorious. At any rate, i was pleasantly surprised to find the Hudson Valley to be full of scenic magestic views. My mom took me and got some pizza pie, which is always going to skew a visit positively :) Then we walked down to "check out what poughkeepsie has to offer". we immediately saw these two ghetto dudes really day drunk drinking out of brown bagged liquor bottles trying to entice two hilly billy dudes into a street fight (much to the horror of the hill billy dudes). then the girl that worked at the coffee shop all disappointed in life and was like, " Its really not nice over here, don't judge our town on this". No judgment here! i did remark to my mom, that I live in the heart of Bedford Stuyvesant brooklyn, and we had just witnessed more street violence than I had ever seen in my hood. After checking out the sleepy town charm I had to pack it up and return back to the hood. Its always strange to leave NYC and to return to it. Especially in the same day. You realize that people simultaneously exist along side you in totally different lifestyles. And that is real. Real culture shock that is! Anyway, good to get out of the NYC bubble from time to time if only for an after noon to check out some street fighting.

blogging fail.

so i was trying to be a better blogger, and then i got a new boyfriend. all of my free blogging time was promptly redirected to drinking coffee at tiny cup and spooning. so much for that. then last night i was hanging out w/ my friend casey and she was telling me about her blog. i chimed in w/ " i have a blog!" and she said, "i know, a blog you haven't updated since december 9, 2008". that is real talk! so just to shake some cobwebbs off this old bloggy blog i had to bust out a post. the blog might take a decidedly grown ass turn however. i am currently in the process of looking for a brown stone in bed stuy to buy and rennovate. if everything works out, lets just say i might be talking about a lot less coors light and a lot more spackle. yea, i said it. spackle. however if things don't work this blog might take a turn into cardboard box living home decor. it could go either way.

but i do have a lot of back blogging to do, as well as some fun rennovation/summer fun posts in the works! stay tunned!

My Name Day!!!

So jack attack just called me up to let me know that today is my "name day". Now that Nina is marrying into the Hieronymus fam, we are getting in touch w/ the old hieronimonain roots! In Bulgaria, and probs some other greek/bulgarian orthodox hoods you get to celebrate your name day, which is the saint that you are named after's day? or their birthday or something? the details are spotty, but nina has informed me that its like your birthday, but you get to just sit around and drink and eat whatever you want. boosh!

Well anyway this solves the the debate whether or not i should allow myself to order thai food for lunch. problem solved! spring rolls here i come!

Photobucket

yea thats right? you didn't know i was all saintly and shit? don't worry about it!

Out of order.

This blog post should have gotten done right after Halloween. As it stands it is almost x mas. Fail. However I would be remiss to not put my Halloween pictures up from Jodie's party, as i spent a LONG time getting this stupid costume together for like two nights of use. The glory will live on in my blog god damn it!

Here's my costume as a German beer girl/shirley temple in "blue bird"

Photobucket

hmmm. in retrospect it seems a little obscure of a reference for a Halloween party. but i needed to put fake blue birds in my hair and this was the most logical option! plus it was my favorite movie to get from the library as a kid. don't worry about it!

Here is Jodie cute as a button in her home made octopus costume. Those cheeks are just asking for a pinch!
Photobucket

At some point i put my sparks wrapper on my beer stein. yea it was like that.
Photobucket

Susan dressed up at a Siamese cat and ryan i guess was a civil war vet? support the troops!
Photobucket

here is the glorious table of junk food that was up for grabs. the combo of chips candy coors light and sparks is delightful. just so you know.

Photobucket

here is jenny dressed as nancy drew investigating how jodie got to be so cute!

Photobucket

then the night took a turn for the worse....jodie's octopus costume came to life and started attacking all the party guests! it was only a matter of time!
Photobucket
Ak! Micheal Phelps! look out!
lol. jk! i think the sparks just kicked in around this time!
Photobucket

then i came in all late and the cats were all. "yo girl! turn off the lights! some of us have a long day of napping tomorrow! respect that!"

TV Star.

Here are the videos of me on that silly animal planet show ACTING A FOOL. LOl, any way in true class clown fashion i offer up my embarrassing videos for your delight. don't say i never did anything for you!

Cranksgiving 2008!!!

So I realize this is a really old post but im starting to feel like a really bad blogger. hmm maybe if some sponsors wanted to give me some incentives aka gift certificates or other useful goods and services i could work some serious product placement into this little baby? i would be a little bit more motivated w/ the blogz! just saying. Anyway, the Cranksgiving race went down a week or two before thanksgiving, and Adrianne persuaded me to join her team. I had in true fashion woken up at 9 am and was looking to kill some time. I was in.

we stopped at that place next to egg in williamsburg for some pre-race fortitude. we needed all the energy we could store up for the adventures we were about to participate in.
Photobucket

i remarked to Adrianne that the restaurant was like a pretend French cafe in old pariee. our server over heard us and proceeded to speak in French way longer than we understood/thought was funny. but he was probably showing off. i mean thats his right. how often does a williamburg waiter get to bust out his conversational French stills?
far be it from me to hate on his paper...you go girl!

after we were fortified w/ carbs and a little bit jittery from a few cups of coffee, we decided to hit the road. we schleped over the bridge and GODDAMN it was cold. my hands and feet went numb on the way over. we had to stop at dave's work ware just to get better gear! we got some "deep freeze" socks and i got some murderer style leather gloves. once we changed our socks and got some feeling back into the old feet pieces, we were ready to boogs.

Photobucket

arg sooo cold!
Photobucket
we waited outside for a while...maybe like an hour or so waiting for the race to start. Adrianne busted out her iphone for maximum route planning and i stood back, and jumped around trying to stay warm. i wouldn't' want to cramp her planning style!

then it started!

our new socks and gloves served us well! it was pretty frosty out but once we were off it wasn't too bad. it was fun to ride around the city and pretend to be a messenger for an after noon. we basically rode around the city collecting canned goods to donate for a food drive for the hungry. it was super inspirational, and once it was over we did a group ride over to a church and handed the food over to this really nice family/priests/church people. i was basically radiating warm fuzzies for the rest of the weekend!

Once we got back to the bar trudy greeted us and everyone chilled for an after party!
Photobucket

Photobucket
(well deserved brew!)

jenny and jake met us too!
Photobucket

All in all the race/afternoon was a success. We got to gather some food for the hungry and got some good physical fitness/fresh air in the mean time!
After Adriane and i got in from the race we decided that we owned it.

Photobucket
Cranksgiving race = owned!

Weekend Excitment.

This weekend my friend Jessica got us on the VIP list for the Diesel 30th Anniversary party. This was a very exciting prospect as I am a bumpkin and am not used to such posh treatment/excitement! I also had no idea what this party ment when she told me we were going so I figured I had better bust out my nicest duds and the make up for a beatutification session! However I was pleasently suprised to see that it ment an evening of delights featuring performances from MIA, TI, Chakachan (SP?), Franz Ferdinand, and NERD. Plus it was a welcomed occasion to bust out my eyeliner and high heeled shoes which rarely happens.
please note that I have taken two Excedrin migraine pills this morning so I am going to try to keep this blog post some what restrained as when i take excidrin I'm usually rattling out of my chair in a hot hyper mess from all of the caffeine. That said, lets take a tour of the evenings events!

Photobucket
(this screw face kind of shows how i feel right now. aka. a little bit crazy)
Photobucket
Here is our friend Cynthia. She was the "Ring master" of the evenings events which is how we got our special VIP status! P.S. Whenever we informed any bouncers of this fact they all gave us the "whats this VIP doing rocking an outfit totally purchased at forever 21" look. Classic! i was like, yea some VIPs are "recessionistas" don't worry about it... I'm on a budget!
(extra points for the use of "recessionista" in this blog post.)
MOVING ON!
Anyway, the theme of the party was "rock and roll circus" so here some really buff dudes doing crazy tricks on ropes. but I must say the wow factor is sort of lost when really buff dudes are working the ropes. It just seems more impressive to me when like a 100lb.lady is doing it. Just sayin.
Photobucket
But I digress, the party planners were really big on the confetti, they shot it out like three different times. we were like, k we get it, we are supposed to feel festive. Geesh!
Photobucket
We get it!
Photobucket
then TI came on a like a secret guest or something, and everyone got really excited! i only know of TI b/c i like to watch that show sweet 16 and i feel like he plays all those birthday parties. haha. anyway, so yea im really out of touch. here he is in al lhis glory!
Photobucket
Jessie and i were dressed to the nines in true oberlinian fashion. OB!
Photobucket
The a really pregnant MIA came out ans was like "howmanyhowmanyhowmanyhowmany" a bunch of times and every one got all excited.
Photobucket
Photobucket
Paper planes!
p.s. she def got the memo that people are into that whole paper planes "gun shot" sound effects, they just kept randomly playing it like while they were hyping the crowd. i guess if it aint broke don't fix it!
her "hype girl" was super cute
Photobucket
after we stuck around long enough for MIA to play it was pretty late! it was totally fun, but i had been standing on these high heels for a few hours at this point and i was OVER IT! plus by this time all of the people who had taking hard drugs had elevated to another level and were beligerantly rolling around/falling over/on us. seriously I was like, I'm curious how these people could be so ridiculously fucked up right now! it took me about an hour in line at the bar to get one cup of bud light! WTF?! haha jk they weren't drunk. they were on E. NEwayZ, we took this as the cue to bounce. leading up to the best part of the evening...
Photobucket
going on the red carpet that everyone had long since abandoned and pretending to be famous. haha. so good! I took Jessie's picture and this guy tried to jump in, and I scolded him like, "hey! get out of there! your not famous!" then he got totally sad and was like, "well, maybe I will be someday... :(" all frowny face style. and suddenly his bar tender/day job/out of work actor status revealed its self. buck up out of work actor! your big break could be just around the corner! Dreams come true!!

Here's some youtube.com girl's VLOG about it, i feel like i was there! oh wait...

Stay tuned for a new post about the Harvest Festival! I can't wait!
